Seraphel, the Radiant Guardian is the god of light, righteousness, and celestial vigilance — and the patron deity of the Luminous Conclave. He is the most widely worshipped deity on Eryndor, and has been so since the founding of the Conclave in 0 LE. His influence shapes law, culture, architecture, and daily life across the continent in ways so pervasive that most of the faithful do not think of it as influence at all. It is simply how the world is.

Symbol

Seraphel's symbol is a radiant sun with twelve elongated, wavy rays extending outward. Each ray represents one of his twelve virtues — the moral framework that underpins all Conclave doctrine:

Honesty. Loyalty. Justice. Mercy. Courage. Temperance. Devotion. Clarity. Vigilance. Compassion. Humility. Sacrifice.

The symbol is typically rendered in gold or gilded metal, often set with gemstones that catch and refract light. It appears in every Conclave temple, is worn as an amulet by the faithful, and is used as a focus for divine spells and rituals. Initiates learn to recite the twelve virtues in order before they are permitted to take their first vows.

Doctrine

Seraphel's doctrine holds that light is not merely physical — it is moral. To live by his teaching is to be visible: honest in action, unwilling to take shelter in shadow or compromise, willing to be seen and judged by the standards one professes.

The twelve virtues are not aspirational ideals. They are expected practice. A cleric of Seraphel who preaches honesty while concealing their own failings is, in doctrinal terms, worse than a layperson who makes no such claim — the betrayal of light from within is considered more serious than darkness from without.

Seraphel's theology also holds that light reveals as well as warms. His clergy are expected not only to embody virtue themselves but to illuminate failure in others — gently where possible, firmly where necessary.

Worship

Seraphel's worship is organised around a cycle of ceremonies maintained by the Luminous Conclave:

• The Illumination Ceremony — conducted weekly in all Conclave temples. The faithful gather to light individual candles from a central, ever-burning flame. The ceremony embodies Seraphel's teaching that each believer carries divine light rather than merely receiving it.
• The Dawn Vigil — a daily ritual at sunrise in which followers gather to greet the rising sun, reaffirming the cycle of renewal and the promise of light after darkness.
• The Oath of Truth — a monthly ceremony in which followers renew their commitment to the twelve virtues, symbolised by lighting a personal candle from the central flame and speaking the virtues aloud.
• The Radiant Fast — an annual observance from dawn to dusk, during which the faithful consume only water. The fast is broken by a communal feast held in the temple, shared equally among all present regardless of rank.

Seraphel's temples are built to maximise natural light — high windows, stained glass, white stone. Darkness is not a feature of his sacred spaces. The ever-burning flame at the centre of each temple is treated as a physical fragment of divine light, maintained by the senior clergy and never permitted to go out.

The Luminous Conclave

Seraphel's earthly institution is the Luminous Conclave, founded at 0 LE by Saint Aelar the Illuminator, who unified the disparate faithful under a single structure at the dawn of the Luminous Era. The Conclave is both the administrative body of Seraphel's faith and a governing authority within Lighthaven and its territories.

The relationship between Seraphel and the Conclave is, in doctrinal terms, direct and continuous. The Conclave speaks in Seraphel's name, administers his sacraments, and interprets his will. The Radiant Sovereign is considered his highest mortal representative.

Lumara

Seraphel is closely associated with Lumara, the Dawnbringer — a fellow deity of the Light domain. The two are described in Conclave doctrine as allies, their domains complementary: Seraphel the light of righteousness and vigilance, Lumara the light of hope and renewal. Clergy of both deities are expected to extend professional courtesy and cooperation to one another.
