Sernix
Also known asNaga
TypeAmphibious society
Found inDeep coastal waters of Eclaryn
DispositionNon-hostile to surface dwellers; motives unclear

The Sernix — also known as the Naga — are an ancient amphibious society dwelling in the deep waters off the coasts of Eclaryn. They are rarely encountered directly, and most surface dwellers know little about them beyond their existence. They are not understood to be hostile, but they are not well understood at all.

Nature and Society

The Sernix are ancient — their society predates most recorded history on Eryndor, and whatever records they maintain of their own past are kept in deep-water archives inaccessible to surface dwellers. They are amphibious, capable of operating both underwater and on land, though encounters with them on the surface are uncommon.

They are not a trading society in any conventional sense, and do not seek regular contact with surface civilisations. What drives their behaviour and what they want from the world above the waterline is not something they have made clear to outsiders.

Encounters

The Lumina Cell became aware of the Sernix during their travels through the Celestial Plains, where they noticed they were being watched from the water — observed with a patience and deliberateness that suggested intent rather than coincidence. The Sernix did not approach or communicate. They simply watched.

A separate encounter in Lythor may also be connected: a giant aquatic creature aided the escape of a cult figure through the Terramite tunnels beneath the city, emerging through an underground waterway. Whether this creature was Sernix-affiliated or acted at their direction is not confirmed.

What Is Known

The Sernix are old, they are observant, and they appear to be aware of the Lumina Cell in ways the cell has not yet fully accounted for. Beyond that, they remain one of the more opaque presences the cell has encountered — neither friend nor declared enemy, neither ignorant of events nor willing to explain their interest in them.
