Eclaryn

Aus Celestisphere Wiki

Eclaryn is the world in which the events of the campaign take place — a planet situated in the Material Plane, home to the continent of Eryndor and a number of other landmasses not yet fully documented. To most of its inhabitants, Eclaryn appears to be a world much like any other: nations rise and fall, gods are worshipped, and the cycles of nature continue. And yet, scholars and mages who study the deeper currents of magic have long noted something unusual about Eclaryn — that its magical phenomena are subtly stranger, subtler, and more unpredictable than they ought to be.

Geography

The primary known landmass of Eclaryn is the continent of Eryndor, which spans a wide range of climates and biomes — from the frozen peaks of The Frostpeak Highlands in the north to the perpetual twilight of The Sunset Desert in the south. Other continents are believed to exist, but remain poorly documented in accessible scholarship.

Magic

Magic on Eclaryn functions through the Weave, the invisible fabric of arcane energy that permeates reality. Spellcasters draw upon this Weave to produce their effects. Those with a keen sensitivity to magic sometimes report a faint but persistent strangeness to Eclaryn's magical currents — an undertone that doesn't quite match what theory would predict. A fireball cast here might carry an unexpected tinge of colour; a healing spell might leave the recipient with a fleeting sense of unease before the warmth takes hold. Most practitioners attribute this to the natural variation of magic across worlds. Others are less sure.

Known Phenomena

Eclaryn is home to a number of magical phenomena that scholars have catalogued over the centuries, some mundane and some remarkable:

  • Certain regions near ley lines exhibit unusually lush plant growth and heightened animal intelligence.
  • Bodies of water with minor healing or magical properties appear with greater frequency than on comparable worlds.
  • In some areas, chunks of land have broken away from the surface entirely and float suspended in the air.
  • Certain regions are afflicted by eternal storms that no weather pattern adequately explains.
  • Spirits and ghosts manifest with unusual ease, particularly near concentrations of ley line energy.
  • In rare and unstable locations, time itself appears to flow at a different rate than the surrounding world.

Scholars of the Luminous Conclave attribute these phenomena to Seraphel's divine blessing upon the world. Independent researchers have proposed other explanations — none of them fully satisfying.

The Celestisphere

Eclaryn exists within a broader cosmological structure known as the Celestisphere — the name given to the multiverse as understood by scholars and theologians of Eryndor. The Celestisphere encompasses the Material Plane, the divine realms, the planes of the dead, and the stranger spaces beyond. The Luminous Conclave teaches that the Celestisphere was shaped by Seraphel and the gods in service of mortal flourishing. Other traditions tell different stories.
