The Council of Light is the governing body of the Luminous Conclave, composed of seven seats including the Radiant Sovereign. Each Council member oversees a major institutional portfolio corresponding to one of the Five Pillars of Radiance or a critical governmental function. Members are commonly addressed as "High Priest" regardless of their specific title or portfolio.
The Council holds supreme institutional authority beneath the Radiant Sovereign. In practice, the Sovereign chairs all sessions and holds final say on any matter — but the Council's collective approval is required for major decisions, and its individual members wield considerable independent authority within their respective portfolios.
Authority
Council members occupy the highest tier of the Auragon Corps' command hierarchy below the Radiant Sovereign herself, meaning their orders to Auragon units carry significant operational weight. Seniority on the Council affects the relative authority of individual members — commands from more senior members take precedence over those from more junior ones in cases of conflict.
Beyond military authority, each Council member effectively functions as the executive head of their institutional portfolio. The Grand Archivist controls all Scholarium operations and archive access. The Lord Chancellor oversees the Radiant Chancellery and its considerable bureaucratic reach. Sir Althorn Lightbearer, as the senior military High Priest, holds oversight of the Radiant Host and — unknown to most — serves as the operational head of the Seraphic Inquisition.
Known Members
Lady Elira Dawnstar — Radiant Sovereign
The supreme authority of the Luminous Conclave and chair of the Council. Head of faith and head of state. Her word overrides all other Council members without qualification. She is the longest-serving member of the current Council and the institution's most public face.
Sir Althorn Lightbearer — High Priest
A senior member of the Council, overseeing military affairs and serving as the Seraphic Inquisition's liaison to the Council of Light. One of the most experienced and trusted figures in the Conclave's upper hierarchy — and the cell handler for the Lumina Cell.
Serelith Voss — Grand Archivist
Head of the Scholarium of Radiant Truth and the Council's keeper of knowledge. A half-elf scholar of exceptional precision and institutional memory, she has served on the Council for over two decades. Meticulous and territorial — her control over what the Conclave knows and what it chooses not to know makes her one of the institution's most quietly powerful figures.
Aldren Faerith — Lord Chancellor
Head of the Radiant Chancellery and the Council's most recent appointee. A human administrator elevated to the Council following an institutional scandal within the Chancellery. He is widely understood to be engaged in the difficult process of rooting out legacy corruption within his own department.
Other Seats
The Council holds seven seats in total. The remaining three seats are filled by High Priests whose portfolios and public profiles are less widely known. The Conclave does not publish a full roster of Council membership, and not all members conduct visible public-facing duties.
Advisors to the Council
Several senior figures report to the Council and attend sessions in an advisory capacity without holding a Council seat of their own:
- High Compassionate Miriel Aelindra — Head of the Covenant of Mercy.
- Crucible Overseer Theron Ashvale — Head of the Auragon Corps conditioning programme, with absolute authority over Auragon deployment assignment and recall.
