Luminous Calendar
The Luminous Calendar is the official calendar system of the Luminous Conclave and the standard in common use across Eryndor. It divides the year into eight months of equal length, each aligned with the seasons and the cycles of Eclaryn's twin moons, Lumina and Celestara. The calendar was established at the founding of the Luminous Era and has been maintained by the Luminous Conclave ever since.
Structure
The year consists of eight months, each lasting 42 days — six weeks of seven days, of which five are workdays and two are rest days. This gives a year of 336 days in total.
The year begins with Radiant's Rise — the second month of spring — and concludes with Bloom's Ascendant, the first month of spring. This arrangement reflects the Conclave's doctrine that true renewal comes not at spring's beginning but at its height.
Months
The eight months proceed through the seasons as follows:
| Month | Season | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Radiant's Rise | Spring | Peak of spring; festival of new growth; sacred to nature spirits. The first month of the year. |
| Seraphel's Zenith | Summer | Height of summer; time of greatest light; major religious celebrations. |
| Harvest's Glow | Summer | Early harvest season; summer festivals; time of abundance. |
| Twilight's Grace | Autumn | Harvest completion; preparation for winter; traditional feast time. |
| Frost's Embrace | Autumn | First frost; final harvests; autumn festivals. |
| Starlight's Peace | Winter | Deep winter; time of reflection; indoor celebrations. |
| Newbirth's Dawn | Winter | Winter's end; planning for spring; renewal celebrations. |
| Bloom's Ascendant | Spring | Season's awakening; time of new beginnings; traditional planting season. The final month of the year. |
Days of the Week
Each week consists of seven named days — five workdays followed by two rest days:
- Firstlight — the week's beginning; traditional market day; morning ceremonies common.
- Guidelight — day of teaching; scholarly pursuits; traditional council meetings.
- Shieldlight — day of protection; military exercises; security duties.
- Wisdomlight — study and learning; temple instruction; traditional court day.
- Virtuelight — charitable works; community service; preparation for the rest days.
- Restlight — physical rest; family gatherings; community events.
- Soullight — spiritual reflection; religious services; sacred ceremonies.
The Twin Moons
The calendar is aligned with the orbits of Eclaryn's two moons:
- Lumina — the larger moon, with a slower orbit. Associated with divine magic and religious ceremony.
- Celestara — the smaller companion moon, with a faster orbit. Associated with arcane magic and magical practice.
Lunar phases guide agricultural practices, religious festivals, and magical observances throughout the year. Convergences of the two moons are considered significant events and are carefully tracked by astronomers and clergy alike.
